Dragon Study

Description

Ok, I just had to post it.

This was a drawing I did in school while I was bored, several weeks ago. It's sort of a "study" of how a dragon's body might realistically look. Of, course the wings are too small, but there is a limit to what I can balance on a paper.

So, because I have nothing better to do, I'm going to explain it. ^^ The dragon's head is long and triangular to keep it light and aerodynamic. It has small horns to reduce weight, and small frills on its jaw to "show off" for the same reason that a peacock has a beautiful tail.
Its throat and chest are covered in large, thick plates to protect those areas. The back of its neck is likewise protected for the same reason, as I would assume that a dragon would be territorial and fights would be common.
Its front legs are thin, mainly to reduce weight but also because most dragons would fly in the place of walking. The chest is large and muscular to support the wings, which have the largest and strongest muscles on the dragon. The wings are very large, being both broad and wide to support flight. The webbing is quite thick between the fingers. The back legs are much larger than the front, being essential for the initial take-off. The tail is short and spiked, and is used as a rudder in flight. The whole dragon is mostly muscle and is quite thin in places, but nevertheless this dragon can be very heavy.

Now, who says I'm obsessed?

Wow I love everything about this dragon. Especially the shading!
